Where in the world is Chris Benoit?

I am a big WWE fan, and I got back from a mission trip three weeks ago. I could not watch WWE over in Africa, sadly. I am curious as to where Benoit is? I have not seen him on WWE programming or on TNA. Did Benoit call it quits? If so I guess he deserved it, but I hope that the WWE let him go out in a go way. Like him being a champ or something. I hope the WWE will let him be in the hall of fame, he was a cl act all the way. I just think it is too early for him to go, I mean Flair is still at it.
