Why did the Australian Air Force chose the F/A-18 Hornet instead of the F-16 Fighting Falcon?

Along with it being a newer, more sophisticated, and better weapons platform I think one of the other big things is the availability of parts and the fact the the US Air Force is phasing the F-16 weapons system out. The cost of parts will surly go up also as this happens for Australia and many of our NATO allies parallel their programs with ours for this reason in regards to aircraft and their air-forces.
