Question to Catholics?

when I am debating with people of other faiths (ie baptists, protestants, mormons) I tend to get defensive reactions from them and at times have had debates turn ugly but when I debate with an atheist they can usually see my point but don't feel like they need to convert and I don't push them. I try not to push anyone into converting but people of other faiths see me that way for some reason I don't understand.
