Do you guys think that Asian parents are overly restrictive and strict?

I worked at a Chinese restaurant where the owners where asian (I don't remember what kind, but not chinese) and they were very strict with their son and employees. They were entirely focused on work work work! Their son had to spend every day after school at the restaurant, even though he didn't really work, he was not allowed to do much else. And they did always fight a lot. I think it is just their culture. Most asian counties are entirely too overpopulated and so there is much more competition for school and jobs and such. I know in Japan they are like that because in their school systems you are periodically tested and if you do not do good enough you are separated into a different cl that becomes the lowly manual labor jobs and the people who score high are schooled separately and get the good jobs.
