Why is it important to refine yourself?

I disagree that we must refine ourselves in order to be with other people. We do it for ourselves. And I do think it possible to be without others. Just give me the chance, ( oh please god, that little wood cabin in Montana?) I contanstly look for ways to improve myself but its because I don't want to be like the countless others out there that are so rude, crude in their thoughts and actions, ually oriented to the point of being obessessed with anything ual. It's no wonder I want to hide in the mountains. The refining I do, I do for myself. To view myself as a better person. Not for anyone else.
