Getting rid of Spiders?

Ive had a different spider somewhere in my house for the past five days, 1 in bedroom, 1 in bathroom, 1 in kitchen and 2 in living room. Ive heard placing conkers as spiders dont like the scent, does this work and what else can I use to deter the spiders as I hate spiders (dont think I have aracknophobia? - cant spell that sorry)
